The Pony Express re-enactment of carrying the mail from Holbrook to Scottsdale is a tradition going back nearly 60 years. Starting on Wednesday, riders affiliated with the Navajo County Sheriff’s Posse will hand off the mail every mile in a relay riding through Heber, Payson and Fountain Hills on the way to the Old Town Scottsdale.
It's a 3-day 200-mile ride across the high chaparral to the Sonoran desert.
The Hashknife Pony Express cowboys are scheduled to arrive at the Museum of the West at high noon Friday. They will stick around town for the 64th annual Parada del Sol, a horse-drawn parade down Scottsdale Road in Old Town that high-steps off at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Trail's End Festival follows the parade from noon to 4 p.m.
